Keeping the networks honest
Billmonitor was launched in 2009 by three mathematicians in Oxford.
Using advanced maths to turn the complexity of bills and tariffs into simple, actionable intelligence, it allows users to make informed decisions and save money in a market where the networks do their best to keep things murky.
Launched in 2009, our consumer service has helped mobile phone users identify over £30-million of savings by analysing their mobile phone contracts. Over 1.5-million people used our dedicated analytics tool or tariff calculator.
Between 2009 and 2023, Billmonitor was the only mobile tariff comparison service that was uninterruptedly accredited by the UK telecommunications regulator Ofcom.
Billmonitor’s consumer services were widely recognised as a unique tech-driven service, this was highlighted by our involvement with the UK government’s MiData project.
Our consumer services were regularly endorsed by MoneySavingExpert. We were also often recommended in the press,and were featured on, among others, the BBC’s “The One Show”, ITV’s “Good morning Britain”, BBC News and Channel 5’s “The Gadget Show”. In 2018, we were finalists for the Digital Innovators Awards.
In June 2023, we made the difficult decision to disable the consumer services as it had become increasingly difficult to analyse and offer all network options. While we love the marketplace, we strongly believe that the UK regulator Ofcom has totally failed to both establish a level playing field, and to facilitate better decision making through price comparison services such as Billmonitor.
We understand that Ofcom is working on a framework that would force network operators to provide easily accessible billing information, similar to the way banks are required to offer it to approved intermediaries. We will only be able to re-launch our consumer services once this has been implemented – until then, we will focus on helping UK businesses, charities, and educational and NHS organisations.

In 2014, we turned our sights to the business market, applying the same technology and expertise employed in the consumer market. We now work with the full range of organisations in the private and public sector, from small SMEs to large corporations.
We are particularly proud of our achievements in the education space and with NHS organisations, where we regularly exceed our average savings of 50%.

Generally, you shouldn’t trust people who make this claim, but in our case it’s true. We’ve structured our business model so that, unless we find savings for you, you pay us absolutely nothing. This makes us very different from the rest of the industry (see diagrams beneath for more info).
